Managing Uploaded Files
Overview
- The Files section is where you upload, organize and manage the documents your AI assistants answer from.
- Files you upload here can be attached to assistants or to a single chat, for Q&A, document generation and resume analysis.
Accessing the File Management System
Click on the “Files” icon in the left sidebar. This will bring you to the file management interface.
Uploading Files
- Click on the ”+ Upload File” button located at the top of the file list.
- A dialog appears where you enter the details of the file:
- File Selection: a “Choose File” button lets you pick the file from your computer.
- File Name: a “File name…” field, filled in with the original file name, which you can change.
- Description: an optional “Describe the content of the file…” field.
- Buttons: “Cancel” closes the dialog; “Create” uploads the file.
- Supported file types: PDF, Word (.docx), TXT, Markdown, CSV and JSON.
- File size limit: depends on your plan (see Pricing). You see a message when a file is too large.
File List
- The file list shows every file you have uploaded.
- Each file shows its type icon, its name and its description (“No description” when none was added).
Searching Files
- Use the “Search files…” field to filter your files by name.
File Actions
Click a file in the list to open its details, where you can:
- View: open the file in a new browser tab, where you can also download it.
- Rename: change the file’s name.
- Describe: add or edit its description.
- Delete: remove the file from your account.
File Organization
- Click the new-folder button next to ”+ Upload File” to create a folder (rename it from its edit button), then drag files into it.
- Use the search field to find a file inside your folders.
Chat Input Hint and File Attachment
- The chat input shows the hint: “Ask anything. Type ”/” for Prompts, ”@” for Assistants, and ”#” for Files.”
- To attach a file you have already uploaded, type ”#” and select the file from the list.
- To upload a new file into the chat, use the ”+” button in the chat input.
- Type your question as usual. The assistant answers using the attached files.
How Files Are Used
- Assistants answer questions from the content of the files attached to them or to the chat.
- Files can be the source for document generation, for example a policy the assistant should follow.
- Uploaded resumes can be analysed and compared with a job description.
Best Practices
- Use descriptive file names for easier searching.
- Group related files in folders.
- Remove outdated versions so assistants do not answer from old information.
